PT 500x Formation & Mission
A course designed to explore how we can incarnate the story of Jesus and engage in his mission. Priority is given to assessment of character, temperament, gifts, talents, abilities, ministry and relational skills, sense of call and other characteristics relevant to spiritual formation and ministry. Special attention is given to the spiritual formation process and how it is expressed through the practice of spiritual disciplines and a missional engagement with a postmodern culture. This course must be taken early in the student's program (e.g., first or second term). Three hours.
PT 502 Relationships and Conflict Management
Interpersonal relationships can often make or break a ministry leader. This course will study why and how authentic relationships are to be formed and maintained in a context of a transforming community pursuing spiritual formation. The course projects and discussions are constructed in such a way as to help the student experience, to a limited degree, the dynamics of collaborative work and the benefits of a relational community. By default, this course will expose those elements, personal and corporate, that hinder the development of strong relationships and transformational communities. Discerning the nature of interpersonal conflicts and resolving them biblically begins by understanding the anatomy of conflict, conflict styles, and catalysts to conflict. The primary skills of effective conflict management will be taught and practiced through actual case studies. Three hours.
PT 525 Ministry & Media
To minister effectively in our rapidly-evolving digital culture, church leaders must gain fluency in the use of contemporary media. By examining key shifts in modern communications theory, this course will equip learners with practical tools to understand, identify, and use emerging media (graphics, film clips, worship video, sermon podcasts, blogs, etc) in a creative ministry context. Students will learn where to find high-quality video & images as well as work collaboratively to produce their own original media for use in a worship setting. Three hours.
PT 600 Leadership Development
Missional leaders model, inspire, and invite others to: enter the conversation, to be imaginative, to experiment, and to innovat e. Missional leaders are adaptive and grow comfortable with discontinuous learning and leading. This course explores the biblical, theological, philosophical, and methodological approaches to Christian leadership. Various paradigms, mental models, and strategies will be discussed with emphasis on leadership development in various contexts. Principles of assessment, organization, planning, delegation, and decision making will be examined and discussed. Three hours.
PT 601 Homiletics
Authentically living and skillfully communicating the gospel is integral to spiritual formation and missional engagement of a biblical community. There is both an art and a science to such proclamation. This course is designed to develop the skills and passion necessary to construct and present Christ-centered and culturally relevant sermons. The course includes in-class preaching experience in a context of peer and professor critical evaluation using oral and written feedback, videotapes, and private conference. Prerequisite: completion of 4 exegetical courses. Three hours.
PT 602 Missional Church 2
Increasing the vision and passion for Christ’s mission in our contemporary culture and context, this course emphasizes the need for and methodologies to encourage spiritual formation ~ loving God and loving people~ in tangible and appropriate ways. An examination of the biblical and theological principles of spiritual formation, along with their historical and contemporary applications will be the focus of the instruction and group discussions. Each student participates in a small group, and is assigned the responsibility to engage in spiritual conversations outside of the classroom. Prerequisite: TH 501. Three hours.
PT 603 Senior Seminar
This course serves to culminate your studies at Bbilical. Assignments in this class are designed to refine, apply, and present the ministerial function of the biblical, theological, and missional truths you have garnered throughout your studies. You will reexamine the program goals and assess your growth since beginning your studies. You will consider the challenges of ministry, leadership, and personal spiritual growth in your ministry setting after seminary. Student initiative and leadership will significantly impact and guide specific class format and assignment structure. Prerequisite: should be taken during last year of student's program. Three hours.
PT 611 Contemporary Communication
Advanced training in the development and delivery
of sermons focusing on biblical interpretation,
cultural awareness and relevance, audience analysis,
and appropriateness. The course also includes
an internship component where knowledge and skills
from the course must be implemented and practiced
in a ministry context. Prerequisite: Homiletics.

PT 620 Discipleship
A study of the biblical and theological principles
of discipleship, along with their historical
and modern applications, and a review of thinking
on small groups and peer counseling in church
history. The course includes an emphasis on discipleship
as a lifestyle, and within the context of the
local church. Each student participates in a
small group and is assigned the responsibility
to disciple someone else. The course also includes
an internship component where knowledge and skills
from the course must be implemented and practiced
in a ministry context. Three hours.
PT 652 Planting Mission Focused Churches
The student will interact with the Biblical, theological, sociological, and practical dynamics of church planting in various settings. Students will become acquainted with the principles and skills needed to lead or assist a church-planting ministry. The course will also include reflection upon church planting movements and their dynamics. The student will engage in a local host community study and develop a prospectus for a new church planting project. e hours.
PT 630 Pastoral Responsibilities & Church
Leadership
An exploration of the concept of the ministry
and minister's responsibilities with an emphasis
on church leadership, administration, pastoral
service, and role in public worship. The course
is designed to familiarize the entry-level minister
with the primary requirements of the pastoral
office. The course also includes an internship
component where knowledge and skills from the
course must be implemented and practiced in a
ministry context. Three hours.
PT 631 Effectively Teaching Adult Learners
The typical ministry leader has many opportunities to lead others through the purposeful and persuasive teaching of the Bible and other subjects. This course will equip you with the knowledge and skills you will need to improve your teaching and increase student engagement in learning. You will examine a biblical model of the teaching-learning process, design dynamic lessons, and consider a variety of methods and strategies for achieving your teaching objectives. Three hours.
PT 650 Ministry Internship Seminar
A seminar for students presently engaged
in ministry to develop and sharpen ministry skills
through practice and application in a ministry
setting. The student identifies the learning
outcomes desired and, with the guidance of a
site supervisor, pursues that learning objective.
In review sessions students interact with a variety
of ministry situations in consultation with a
faculty mentor. Prerequisite: PT 500 and internship
contract form submitted and approved. Three hours.
PT 655 World Religions
The course deals with topics such as Hinduism, Islam, primal religion, secular religions, American popular spirituality, and New Age. Other issues include: theology of religion, globalization and Jihad, political religions, and modern myth. Three hours.
PT 672 The Forgotten Ways: Reactivating the Missional Church- online
This course will explore the internal and external dynamics of rapidly expanding, highly transformative Jesus movements. We will examine two significant movements (namely the Early Christian Movement and The Underground Chinese Church) in an attempt to identify what factors must come together to create catalytic, exponential, growth. Emphasis will fall on the interpretation of apostolic dynamics for the churches in the West—particularly with implications for the Emerging Missional Church. We will explore the implications at the level of philosophical systems, theological paradigms, as well as dealing with practical issues facing local churches.
PT 700 Strategic Thinking & Planning
An overview of strategic visioning and planning
as it applies to ministry, organizations, and
teams. Various strategic paradigms and models
are discussed with particular emphasis on practical
application. Extensive discussion of integration
of faith, planning, implementation, and evaluation
allows the student to develop critical planning
and organizational skills. The course also includes
an internship component where knowledge and skills
from the course must be implemented and practiced
in a ministry context. Three hours.
PT 710 Corporate Culture & Change
A study of the primary theories and practices
of organizational culture and change. An emphasis
is placed on the acquisition of skills needed
to better understand the unique culture of organizations
and the use of principles that will help cultivate
proactive, transformational change. The course
also includes an internship component where nowledge
and skills from the course must be implemented
and practiced in a ministry context. Three hours.
PT 723 Leadership on the Summit
The majestic Pikes Peak in Colorado is one of the most renowned peaks in the continental United States. Students will climb thirteen miles to the 14,110 ft. summit. Timeless principles of leadership are both taught and experienced while the student prepares and engages with other members of the team during the two day hike. Each student prepares spiritually, physically, emotionally, and relationally for the climb. All participants will have an opportunity to lead their group for part of the hike, deliver a leadership lesson to their group, and share the insights they gain with the whole group. The group returns to the trailhead via the cog railroad. In other words, you climb up and ride down. Three hours.
PT 730 Worship In Community
A study of the backgrounds, theology, history and practice of worship in community as it relates to ministry within the missional church. Particular attention will be given to the exegesis and implications of key New Testament texts, and to the planning and leading of corporate worship that is both biblically faithful and culturally relevant. Students will participate in a diversity of worship experiences and be challenged to pursue personal holiness and effective shepherding as worship leaders. Three hours.
PT 739 Group Life in an eWorld
In this course we will weave together a number of ancient, modern and postmodern threads. We will examine how connection and community in the postmodern world have evolved as belief, progress, connection and technology have changed from generation to generation. We will seek to establish biblical principles that can undergird Christian community, and will examine various modern and postmodern church practices in light of these principles. Of particular interest will be missional and emerging church themes and how they relate to the practice of our life together in Christian community. Students will be equipped to develop their own unique foundations, practices and goals related to how we will connect people in church life together in an eWorld.
