Romans 12:1-2

Romans 12 is one of several key passages in the NT that describe for us the kind of life that God intends for his people. It is important for us to think about carefully because it is not the kind of life that most of us live most of the time. If this we are to live this life, we need to put three elements into play: vision, intention, and means.

1. Vision: What is the good, acceptable, and perfect will of God?

  • a plan or a pattern?
  • a vision of what life could be
  • it is the goal of life

2. Intention: What does it mean to “offer your bodies as living sacrifices”?

  • the OT image
  • the “reasonable” act of worship

3. Means: What is the process of spiritual transformation?

  • the mind is the key to transformation

Dallas Willard: “The prospering of God’s cause on earth depends upon his people thinking well.”
  • caring for our minds

    – control the input

Dallas Willard: Nothing enters the mind without having an effect for good or evil.”

    – put your mind to work
