BTS Mourns the Loss of Student James Buhari

BTS Mourns the Loss of Student James Buhari

Dear BTS family:

I have very sad news. Early Monday morning, we received the difficult news that our brother and ThM student James Buhari died suddenly in the early hours of Saturday, October 21. Friend and fellow student Eli Kerek had been unsuccessful in reaching him throughout the weekend. Eli came to James’ apartment at approximately 11:30 p.m. Sunday evening. Knowing that James had a life-threatening heart condition, Eli contacted the police after getting no response at James’ apartment. The police entered the apartment with Eli, and discovered James’ body. He was working on a paper, with the words “To God Be the Glory” scrolling on his computer screen. We suspect that he died as a result of his heart condition, though we have not received any official cause of death from the coroner.

James, born August 15, 1980, is survived by his wife Debbie and newborn son Derek, both of whom live in Nigeria. His son was born September 7 of this year, and James was hoping to see his wife and son (for the first time) over Christmas break. He is also survived by two older sisters who live in Nigeria.

James worked for Tony Pletscher on our facilities staff. If you have ever had the chance to speak with James, you will know that he had always had a joyful countenance and was eager to speak about his love for Christ. Please join me in praying for James’s family, especially for his wife and newborn son. More details will be released as they become available.
